About Mount Fuji Onsen

A guide to the baths around the mountain

Mount Fuji Onsen is an independent guide for everyone who wants to soak in a hot spring near Mount Fuji. Here you will find how the day trip from Tokyo with a hot spring stop works, which baths face the mountain, how the Kawaguchiko hot spring town works, where to find a private bath, which day-use baths are open, how to bathe and what the rules on tattoos are, what a ryokan night is like, where to stay, where to soak after a climb, how to combine skiing with an onsen, and which months suit the trip.

The site is available in English and five additional languages. It is written first in English.

How we research

Every number on our pages comes from a source that we link to at the bottom of the page: mostly the baths' and inns' own websites, the Japan National Tourism Organization, Yamanashi Prefecture's and Fujikawaguchiko's tourism sites and the official Mt. Fuji climbing site, with the Japan Meteorological Agency's official 1991 to 2020 normals for its Kawaguchiko observatory, and day length we calculate ourselves. Information on tours, that is duration, languages, inclusions, and starting prices, is taken from the offers on GetYourGuide.

Baths change their hours, close for maintenance and set their own rules on tattoos, and a famous bath can close for months. Tours also differ in what they include, the bath ticket above all, and a hot spring offered as an option is not a bath included in the price. That is why we tell you plainly what a listing or a bath states and what it leaves open.

How we make money

Mount Fuji Onsen is funded through the GetYourGuide affiliate program. When you book through one of our links, we receive a commission; your price remains the same. There are no advertising banners here, and we do not sell your data.
